10 Years!!!

Happy New Year. We trust you are all busy enjoying the long summer days, we have been busy gearing up for our exhibition and events deadlines for this year's June Festival. It is our 10th annual Festival, the longest running photography Festival in New Zealand. Over the period of 10 years we have worked with the best local artists, some great international ones and are now partnered with every Australian photo Festival, Pingyao in China and Angkor in Cambodia. The Auckland Festival of Photography has been supported in last ten years by nearly every public gallery, private dealer gallery and loads of community venues across the Auckland region. Our audience is loyal and growing. Our Festival is immensely popular.

Photographers of every level, from the famous, celebrated, the loved, the liked, the mature to the child photographer have all been given a special place to share and develop their craft each year in the Festival. Our programme has led the way for community engagement, being the first Festival to run open access exhibition programmes in 2004 and public photography projects that invited the citizen to take the shot and show us their view of their world. It has proven a very popular formula, so much so that 10 years on, we set a high standard for other events to follow. We thank everyone who has supported us for the last ten years, who shared our vision and purpose, from the funders, sponsors, to the artists, galleries, curators, media, volunteers, present and past trustees and our hard working long enduring small team.

Festival 2013

Dont forget to let us know by end January that you are having a show or event this year, send your confirmations to us by 2 Feb.

To show your work see here for how to take part. The Festival Trust is planning an expanded Talking Culture Symposium weekend, Sunday Series and Projections. Alongside the next recipient of the Annual Fine Arts Commission in 2013 will be a selection of local artists exhibitions and international artists to enjoy. The Fringe programme will continue the Festival's 10 year history of open access across a range of photographic styles, genres, practices and venues.

Annual Fine Arts Commission 2013

We are delighted to announce this year's shortlisted artists for the Annual Fine Arts Commission are Peter Evans, http://www.peterevansphotography.co.nz,/ Anita Jacobsen, who featured in the "Girls Who Shoot/Boys Who Draw exhibition included in the Festival last year and Jennifer Mason, http://www.jennifermason.co.nz./.  We wish each of them the best for the next stage of the selection and look forward to another excellent commission showing in 2013. Thanks to Creative New Zealand for their support of this unique opportunity.

Gallery space shortage

As many of you will have experienced there are many venues already booked and galleries not available this year and we also have several key exhibitions that we would love to find a home for. If you or your organisation have any suitable space for a small, medium or large format show let us know ASAP. We have two key very exciting international exhibitions that we cannot find a suitable free or low cost space for. Public spaces like The Cloud would be great except it's not free! Shed 10 would do but is also too expensive for us. Please call us on "09 307 7055" if you can assist us.
