Auckland photographers exhibition in China

Four Auckland photographers have been selected to show their work in a new exhibition featuring at the annual Pingyao International Photography Festival in September. Artists Geoffrey Heath, Vicky Thomas, Chris Corson-Scott and Anita Jacobsen have had their work selected as part of a curated group show of contemporary Auckland artists by the Auckland Festival of Photography. This exhibition will be shown from 19 September for 7 days at the world's largest photography festival. Congratulations to these selected photographers. We will bring more on the artists and their exhibition in next month's newsletter.

Diesel Factory exhibition space part of a designated 10 acre site for the annual celebration of photography

Pingyao International Photography Festival is held all over the entire ancient walled city, including on a designated 10 acre site that comprises old factories, warehouses, temples, pavillion's and outdoor exhibits, the whole city gets behind it including exhibitions in the local tax offices, post office, banks - over 200,000 visitors enjoy the Festival each year and the Auckland Festival of Photography has been partnering with Pingyao since late 2010.

A winners exhibition will be launching from late August, starting in Tokyo, Japan.

Sandra Phillips, Senior Curator of Photography at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is the keynote speaker at this year's Art Fair (tickets apply) and Nikon Auckland Photo Day winner 2011, Mareea Vegas has been busy building her portfolio since 2011, she's published photography books and held two successful exhibitions in the annual Festival in 2012 and 2013, so it is a real pleasure to see Mareea's selection as the featured artist at the Digibox down at Queens Wharf this weekend, on until 14 August. Go check it out!

Next month at Auckland Art Gallery go to hear Patrick Reynolds on California Design and the acclaimed work of American photographer Julius Shulman. This will be highlight for all photographers, Patrick is an excellent presenter. Hear him on Sunday 15th Sept at his talk.

Starting next week in August is the Biennale of international photography in Ballarat, Australia. Our APP partners across the ditch have succeeded in producing an amazing 2013 Festival programme which has plenty to offer including plenty of core artists exhibitions by Australian photographers such as John Cato, Sonia Mack and Meredith O'Shea among others.......one of the Core programme highlights also is UK's Sheena Macrae in the projection programme. And for those of you wanting more Festivals to visit once Ballarat ends you can hop on the next flight to China, and the annual Pingyao International Photography Festival which starts on 19th September for 7 days, it's hosting the annual meeting of the Asia Pacific Photoforum this year.
