Welcome to Festival Zone for November 2011. Wow what a busy month October was! Our October blog theme of Music was well supported across the region. Photo's from disco's at Hobsonville church halls, to bag pipes at Matakana markets, local musician's Ardijah, Lunar Sea, Luke Hurley, Jordan Luck, to AK Samba, Resporn, a Richmond Road school concert, Night at the Proms at Bruce Mason, to Neil Finn's studio piano to rock stars U2, Franz Ferdinand and Neil Diamond in concert were entered. The winner for Photo of The Month is Grant Stantiall with his photo of a typical pub gig, with sweaty singer and it just happens to be of classic Kiwi musicians Mark Williams and Dragon. Well done Grant, the $50 Real Groovy voucher is on it's way.

International call for Auckland Photographers
Auckland Festival of Photography is working with an exciting and bold international timelapse project that spans the globe, 1Day6Cities, aims to shoot simultaneously across the globe in six cities including Auckland and the project is looking for photographers to shoot in Auckland on 11/11/11. 1DAY6CITIES is a collaborative, simultaneous time lapse project happening in London, Dubai, Shanghai, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Auckland. The project is made of up from photographers from each of these cities donating a couple of hours of their day to shooting a scene from their city that they find interesting and that illustrates a slice of life there. If you would like to be involved in this project register soon, they need a minumum of 12 local photographer's on board by 8th November.
The resultant photographs and films will then be exhibited in each of the cities. All photographers retain full copyright and are fully credited.
Expressions of interest - Festival 2012
Dates for 2012 Auckland Festival of Photography will be Friday 1st to Sunday 24th June 2012. We are now accepting your expressions of interest if you are planning an exhibition for next year's Festival. Send your fringe exhibition expression of interest to bev.photofestival@xtra.co.nz or for general enquiries about the Festival contact us at info.photo.festival@xtra.co.nz between now and the middle of January 2012. Our very own Bev Goodwin, Festival fringe co-ordinator, is also an artist and has been creating new work for Sculpture in the Gardens in Manurewa. Bev Goodwin studied fine arts (painting) at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Florence, Italy and 3D design at Unitec. She is a multimedia artist who has had numerous solo exhibitions around New Zealand. Goodwin's works have appeared in New Zealand collective exhibitions including Sculpture OnShore, World of Wearable Art, Small Works and Art in the Gardens (Kumeu), as well as in Paris and the United States. She has also curated many exhibitions and is a graphic designer. (text courtesy of the artist)

Sculpture in the Gardens is a free outdoor exhibition (9 October to 12 February) of 21 large-scale sculptures by some of New Zealand's most talented artists at the Auckland Botanic Gardens. Open daily from 8am to 8pm, the gardens also have kids' summer workshops, free music events and guided walks held during the exhibition months.

Asia Pacific Photoforum - Our new Cambodian partner, the Angkor Photo Festival begins on 19 November and has announced it's full programme. It's only two weeks to go to this is a fantastic line up of top quality international photography including local initiatives for Asian photographers and a very successful Childrens Day workshop. We are delighted to be working with Angkor on bringing some of their programme to the next Festival in Auckland 2012. More details will be in our newsletters in the new year. Over in Australia in Ballarat this year's BIFB11 was resounding success with over 65,000 visitors to see exhibitions and events providing a boost to the local economy and tourism. Well done to the team in Ballarat!
