Lantern online show
Lantern provided many great photo opportunities for selection in the exhibition at the Aotea Centre during the 2006 Festival, however many great photographs missed out from selection at the last hurdle and this online selection is provided to show some of the best of the runners up, some of those that nearly made it into the final show.

About
LANTERN was a festival event of themed work selected from an open public submission process for public exhibition. The Auckland Festival of Photography asked for entries from photographers for presentation in a June 2006 exhibition. This invitation to be part of this urban visual treasure hunt, by asking photographers to "find the shot" at Lantern, recognised photographers are constantly seeking out the moment, the light, the action, the atmosphere.
Photographers were asked to capture the colour and flavour of the 2006 AsiaNZ Chinese Lantern Festival in Auckland. The event is held in Albert Park annually and attracts more than 100,000 people over three days - but it is at night that it comes alive. With the warm glow of hundreds of lanterns this is a sight that lights up the Auckland City skyline.
The exhibition presented selected images/photographs that best reflect the uniqueness and humanity of the Lantern Festival. The people, faces and places in this popular three-day cultural summer celebration of Auckland's diverse Asian community.

Lantern was supported by the ASIA NZ Foundation.
