Lisa Reihana's series of photographs Nga Hau e Wha depicts her nieces as the Goddesses of the four winds. The works, which were developed out of a 2009 Te Papa Tongarewa commission (Mai i te aroha, ko te aroha), are exquisitely spliced from interstices of complex past and present cultural trajectories, a contemporary re-presentation of Maori tradition.
Reihana, a multimedia artist of Nga Puhi descent, has exhibited at major institutions both nationally and internationally since graduating from Elam School of Fine Arts in 1987. Her work Digital Marae was shortlisted for the prestigious 2008 Walters Prize.
