Auckland Festival of Photography presented by Harvey Norman
Auckland Festival of Photography [Whakaahua Hākari] is proud to announce Harvey Norman as its 2025 Festival naming rights sponsor.

We welcome Harvey Norman to the Festival family and look forward to a sensational 2025 Festival together.”

This partnership aims to create a new layer of engagement and passion for photography, while also bringing together technology, creativity, and the local community.”
As part of the partnership, Wynyard Quarter’s Silo 6 venue will become "Festival HQ presented by Harvey Norman". Dates and associated exhibitions will be announced on 17 April, as a key element of the 2025 Festival programme. Harvey Norman will also expand the Festival awards offered annually for Aotearoa Music Photography Awards (May) and Youth Photo Award for emerging photographers (June). Each award category will have a Harvey Norman prize in addition to the usual cash grants offered.
As part of the Auckland Festival of Photography presented by Harvey Norman, entries for the Aotearoa Music Photography Awards 2025 open in May. Pop up exhibitions featuring 2024’s winners and selected entries can be viewed at Te Oro Music Centre, Glen Innes, Ellen Melville Centre, High Street, Commercial PwC Tower and Quay Street display, and screened on Freeview TV CH200. Awards include cash grants for the top two judged images and a People’s Choice Prize by Harvey Norman for an image that gains the most valid public votes.
Entries open in June for the annual Youth Photo Award, part of the Auckland Festival of Photography presented by Harvey Norman. The Award is for photographers/artists aged under 25 years. Winners will receive cash grants and Harvey Norman prize vouchers, other products, vouchers on offer.

2025 Festival - The Eye of Photography
Zoé Isle de Beauchaine is a Paris-based journalist and independent curator, specializing in photography. Zoe from The Eye of Photography, France will attend the Festival to cover exhibition artists, conduct interviews and reviews, participate in panels. 28 May – 4 June. Aotearoa Music Photography Award 2025
Aotearoa Music Photography Awards 2025 – Opens 1st May – Cash grants 1st place $1250 and 2nd place $500, a People’s Choice supported by a Harvey Norman prize for the image that gains the most valid public votes, other products, vouchers on offer. Terms and conditions, prizes announced on 17 April.
Part of our May programme will be Pop up exhibitions and screenings for the previous 2024 AMPA winners and entries, which will be available at Te Oro Music Centre, Glenn Innes, Ellen Melville Centre, High Street, Commercial PwC Tower and Te Komititanga Square outdoor display and screened on Freeview TV CH200 nationally. Start saving the date, for these exclusive Awards and if you're in a band, a group or solo artist, professional photographer, keen amateur or audience member start shooting for the Awards submissions.
Talking Culture - Sam Barzilay, Photoville
New York’s Photoville co-founder and creative director, Sam Barzilay, visits Auckland in late July as a special guest of the Festival Trust. During his time in Auckland, Sam will be researching and meeting NZ artists, curators, presenting a talk about his Festival, Photoville and doing limited portfolio reviews.
Barzilay is the Creative Director and Co-Founder of Photoville—a New York-based non-profit organization that works to promote a wider understanding and increased access to the art of photography for all.
His curatorial practice is focused on creating unique and highly innovative exhibition and programming environments, centered on the principles of addressing cultural equity and inclusion.
In his dual capacity as curator and festival organizer, he has had the pleasure and privilege of curating photo exhibitions and lecturing on current trends in contemporary photography in over two dozen countries worldwide.
He has served as juror, nominator, and reviewer for Prix Pictet, Les Rencontres d’Arles, Houston FotoFest, and the New York Portfolio Reviews, among many others including World Press Photo 2025 North America jury.
Donations
Donate $20 to support the work we do; all donations are NZ tax credit eligible via our Give A Little page and can be made monthly to help keep us afloat in these challenging cost of living recessionary times.
All donations received go towards the ongoing sustainability of the annual Festival activities.

The Festival team works all year-round creating opportunities so that photographers from every genre can present their new work. We provide and maintain the platform, profile and network necessary to present you with the best opportunities to inspire the imagination and showcase photography in our annual Festival.
Festival exhibitors can have the opportunity to join the 2025 community and be part of a Festival that showcases both international and national artists at diverse stages of their careers. All funds received as admin fees go towards the ongoing sustainability of the annual Festival and associated activities such as, see our 2024 end of year review.
