Using a piece of her mother's darning as a starting point Helena Hughes makes images that consider notions of comfort and home and also bigger things like consumerism, recycling and protection. She also employs discarded objects such as the hem of a pair of jeans to fashion masks or items of concealment in her portraits. Hughes revisits the 18th Century practice of masquerade with contemporary eyes. This show is a site-specific photographic exhibition made for the high quality clothing shop Scotties.
