Theme
The history of photography has shown a two-way influence with movements in painting. This influence was evident in 1890 when George Davison's pinhole photograph "The Onion Field" won at the Photographic Society's annual London Exhibition inspiring a group of photographers to move into "art photography" also influenced by Impressionist painters of the time. Leonie Richardson's and David Collier's images are informed by methods employed and reference art movements. The nearby onion fields of Franklin, Auckland serve as a reminder of Davison's photograph and how a single image can inspire change.
