The Hadzabe tribe in northern Tanzania are considered Africa’s last true hunter-gatherers - a tribe so old that National Geographic calls them “the closest living relatives of the humans who first left Africa.” In the dry season of 2018 photographer Guy Needham spent time with them, and this exhibition is designed to illustrate the divide between their simple, yet harsh, way of life vs the ‘more is best’ demands of Western Society. Each portrait carries a brown-hued grittiness to echo the rocks, bush and dirt of their unforgiving environment. The Hadzabe of Tanzania is the fifth in Guy Needham’s Tribal series.
